You've heard of blender recipes before, but have you ever made a blender cake? If not, this is the one for you. It's so fast and easy to make, you can set your 5-year old to work measuring and mixing while you prepare the pan. Truly, it's that simple. What Cookies Do I Use For This?

You can use any crispy chocolate cookie, but I love the classic Nabisco chocolate wafers. They are basically OREO cookies without the cream filling. You could also use chocolate Graham crackers or as shown chocolate Teddy Grahams. Of course, really any other solid chocolate crispy cookie works. You really just need to make sure it is crisp and not a soft cookie. It needs to create a dry powder to mix with the milk to create the powder.

Can I Add Mix-In' to This Cake?

You can definitely add mix-ins if you wish. I love basic chocolate cake but can see adding things to this would up the flavor. Below are some ideas of items you could mix into the cake. I would add no more than 1 cup of mix-ins for the best results in this recipe.

  • Pecans, walnuts, almonds, macadamia nuts, pistachios, peanuts, or hazelnuts
  • Chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, white chocolate chips, or peanut butter chips
  • Candy pieces like toffee bits, Andes mint candy bits, M&M's, or Butterfinger bits
  • Sprinkles, jimmies, or sprinkle blends

Can I Make This In Different Flavors?

You can make this cake with any flavor crunchy cookie. Lemon, vanilla, gingerbread, and chocolate are the easiest to find and have the best results. You could even use a combination of vanilla cookies with a flavored strawberry or banana milk for a different flavor. You can always add in flavoring extracts too to add to the profile if desired.

Do I Have to Add Frosting to Chocolate Cake?

You don't have to add frosting or a simple glaze to this cake if you don't want to. Since cakes tend to get dry easily, I like to have a frosting or glaze on hand. It's also much easier to decorate if you are using this for a birthday or event if you add frosting on top. Especially when you want to add sprinkles!

Does This Cake Have to be Refrigerated?

This cake does not have to be refrigerated after baking. If adding the glaze to the cake, it is safe to store at room temperature for up to 3 days. Despite the addition of millk to the glaze, it is a small amount compared to the sugar and is stabilized making it safe to consume even when left out overnight.

If you do choose to refrigerate the cake, I recommend bringing it to room temperature before serving for the best flavor and texture. You can also pop into the microwave for 15-20 seconds on high to heat up and serve with a dollop of ice cream on the side.

I am a huge fan of cakes. They are usually easy to make and always satisfy a crowd. If you are looking for more ideas for cakes you can serve to your family, then you'll love this old fashioned pound cake recipe. It's decadent while not being overly fussy.

Another favorite is the easy coconut cake recipe with a simple mild flavor and homemade coconut icing. Of course, in the summer months, I reach for this fresh lemon cake with a hint of blueberry for a light bite.

The ultimate though has to be the New York cheesecake and the chocolate cheesecake with ganache topping. They are, in fact, my personal favorites in the world of cakes! There are even a no-bake OREO cheesecake and a blueberry lemon cheesecake you can whip up!
