How to Make Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper (or bake the cookies in batches).
  • In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the butter and both sugars on medium speed until well combined. (You can also beat by hand or use a hand mixer.)
  • Add the egg and vanilla and beat on medium speed until well incorporated. Stir in the flour, baking soda, and salt, then fold in the chocolate chips.

  • Be careful not over-mix the cookie dough.

  • Scoop 1-tablespoon-size portions of cookie dough a few inches apart onto the prepared baking sheets. Press a few chocolate chips into each of the dough balls.

  • Bake the cookies for about 8 to 10 minutes, until golden brown and starting to crisp around the edges. Let the cookies cool completely.

How to Store Chocolate Chip Cookies

Storechocolate chip cookies in an airtight container for up to 4 days.

To freeze baked cookies:Wrap cookies individually in plastic wrap. Then place in afreezer-safe containeror in individualfreezer-safe baggies. To defrost, let them set at room temperature, uncovered.

To freeze the cookie dough for baking later:Line arimmed baking sheetwithparchment paper. Scooptablespoon-size portionsof dough onto the baking sheet. Scoops of dough can be close together at this point.

Place baking sheet in the freezer to flash freeze for at least 30 minutes. Take the cookie dough out of the freezer and transfer to afreezer-safe plastic containerorplastic bag. Return the dough to the freezer and store until ready to bake. Store cookie dough in the freezer for up to 3 months.

To Bake Frozen Cookie Dough:When craving a cookie, simply remove the number of cookies you want from the freezer and place a few inches apart on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake at 350°F for 10-12 minutes or until cookies start to light brown on top and crisp around the edges.

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/3 cup chocolate chips

Instructions
