We've got a place called Portland near where I live here in Dorset, UK. The 1944 D-Day landings were rehearsed around It's surrounding areas on the beaches. Many war time American soldiers were stationed In Portland and locals put them up In their homes. Today It's mainly well known for It's lighthouse 'Portland Bill' by visitors and tourists but by locals It's still known as the place of the GI gene pool

This sweet song was written for the 1993 movie "Sleepless in Seattle", and was nominated for an Oscar (though it lost to a song from a different Tom Hanks movie).
It plays during the scene where Meg Ryan's Annie, who lives in Baltimore, is in Seattle basically stalking Tom Hanks' Sam and his little son Jonah. But it's all good because she's a nice person and they end up together.
"A Wink and a Smile", by Marc Shaiman and Ramsey McLean, performed by Harry Connick, Jr.

this is a random one.
i was thinking to make something about the Zero/Nothing theme, and i looked at the portrait of Alfred Hitchco*ck which i had painted recently,
and this is what i just did.
I also read that he sexually harrassed his female actresses. If that's true - Yuck!
At one point in the video i thought i looked like Alfred. Yuck yuck!
Oh i came back to share a funny thing...
So i let the video editing app generate lyrics for me. And at the start when i threw my cap away- the generated captions were : "What The F*** Do You Think I Am." Seriously. That made me laugh. It also generated some random words at the end when i was not singing. Something like "Oh Yeah!"....

I've just done a quick round-up for Season 641. I included a list of my favourites from the week. If you've got the time and the inclination, & in @Joko 's continuing absence, why don't you pop back there and list your favourites too? Help our buddy out and make it a collectively hosted Season

Oh! I am sure most of the stories about Hitchco*ck's women are absolutely true, but that wouldn't stop me having either of your wonderful portraits of Hitch on my wall, if you ever wanted to sell them. He was quite cruel to Tippi after she refused his advances. There was also a French actress, Brigitte Auber he similarly made advances to who wasn't much over 3 years older than his daughter, Pat, in fact Brigitte is still with us at the age of 99!
Daughter Pat appeared in several of Hitchco*ck's TV productions and films, in fact several stories by Roald Dahl, who shared AH's cruel sense of humour, were televised by Hitchco*ck, as were several by Robert Bloch, who also wrote the original story of Psycho, which both Pat and Alfred, in his usual cameo, eventually appeared in. Well, that's un œuf about Alfred!

Hello again, Chris! This was a moment of sheer escapism for me. I recorded it at about 8.00 p.m. when there was no moonlight - although it WAS getting slightly dark - I hadn't had dinner and I was about to embark on a mission to find whatever poor, hapless animal Seamus had been pursuing round the kitchen for the last half hour. (It hasn't appeared yet and Seamus has lost interest and gone to sleep.) Anyway, it was my attempt to bring a little romance into my life ... but never mind! (Oh, and the song was recorded by Eddie Vedder, so I guess it qualifies.)

Approved! I grew up visiting Vancouver BC more than most other places in the US, including Portland or other places in WA. Let's do it!

Thanks Chris, welcome back to the gray and the rain! Summer is coming soon tho, and we’ll have our two weeks of sun
My entry for the week is ‘Dream A Little Dream’; the connection to the PNW is that at some point Eddie Vedder (of Pearl Jam fame) released an album called ‘Ukulele Songs’ where it was just him singing love songs on a ukulele. And he covered this in the album!

Down by the Water by The Decemberists. Don't know much about this band except what I read this morning but they are from Portland. Almost gave up on the video as I played so badly as soon as the camera was on but I at least made it all the way through this take.

"Sleepless in Seattle" was a huge hit, but even in '93, it was such a weird movie.

Anyway, to respond to your ... request? ... suggestion? ... request-adjacent nudge? ....
On yesterday's video, stalwart YouTube commenter friend Ken Smith suggested Johnny Horton's "North to Alaska", which I suspected was a bit far afield from the intended PNW. Our hands-on host dropped by to concur.
But then he had to go and look up the lyrics, and discovered ... the song's protagonists go "North to Alaska" from ... Seattle!
So then I kind of had to go and learn it.
It proved harder than it sounded. Worse, I discovered a pre-release version of the song (called "Go North!" on YouTube ... which has a third verse that's not in the released single ... and that third verse is by far the coolest part of the song ... and of course it's not in any of the charts ... so I had to make my own.
I've spent way more time on this today than I ever planned. So please listen all the way through if you listen, so you catch the fun third verse!
