Greetings Fellow and Future Seasonistas!
If you're new here and wondering what in the world is going on here, WELCOME!! You're not alone. We've all been there. Check out the FAQ's page for A's to many Q's. No pressure, but feel free to join us!
For the rest of ya's who know the drill, let's get started.
The Theme (options)
I just got back from some travels (still battling jetlag) to my current residence in the good ol' Pacific Northwest (PNW) of the USA. It's a unique place with some unique folks and some of that has generated some pretty darned good music. With your help, I'd like to created a playlist of PNW inspired 'ukulele music.
- Songs with name of locations in the area - Seattle, Portland, Mt. Rainier, Mt. St. Helens, Columbia River, Puget Sound, etc.
- Bonus points for songs with Native American names of locations
- Songs by bands or artists from the area.
- List of Musicians from Seattle
- List of Musicians from Portland
- Bonus points for songs by Native American bands, artists, or tribes from the area
- Songs of or inspired by "Seattle Sound" - Grunge!
- This can be from bands or artists outside of the Seattle area, as long as it's heavily inspired by Seattle
- Songs about the rain, gloominess, or gray skies
- Let's face it, PNW weather is a part of life here. Any songs like this feel like home home. Let's fight that Seasonal Depression with some music!
- Completely unrelated to the theme - Songs with the number zero in the lyrics
- ... or any form of zero, zilch, zip, nada, nothing, or in other languages ('wala' in Tagalog means nothing)
- Why, you ask? The nerd in me noticed the next number in this Season's pattern going 6-4-2-0.
Isn't' that odd?That isn't odd.
- FOR YOU CLASSICAL PLAYERS!!
- Songs that evoke the emotion or sound like rainy, gloomy weather
- Songs that sound like grunge
- Songs that have been played by the Seattle Symphony - (I don't know! Look it up! )
The Rules
- No limit to number of entries. Play away and free!
- Videos should be recorded for this week. Usual exceptions apply.
- Collaborations and multi-tracking are welcomed. As always, the 'ukulele must be in the forefront.
- No videos should be posted before 12:00 AM Hawaii time, Sunday 6/2/2024.
- Season ends at 11:59:59 PM Hawaii time next Sunday, 6/9/2023.
- New Seasonistas may sing any song they want in any style with any amount of production or lack thereof. BE FREE!!
The Prize(s)
- I'll be choosing a few "winners" to receive an 'ukulele related (or maybe non-uke related) something or another that I got from my recent travels.
- I think I might go with some strange, secret criteria for this week, so your best bet is to not think about it and just play!!!
- I will add pics of the prizes, eventually.
- I may or may not paint some postcards this week. If I do, they definitely won't be as custom as last time! That was a bit time consuming. We'll see if and how inspiration strikes.

Approved! I grew up visiting Vancouver BC more than most other places in the US, including Portland or other places in WA. Let's do it!

Brill.TY! I got my Master's degree from UBC in 1982. Saw so many great bands while I was there: The Clash (2), The Jam, Blondie, Elvis Costello... The list goes on. The Commodore Ballroom, Rohan's Rockpile, Kerrisdale Arena, the American Hotel. But the bands I'm particularly thinking of are Doug & The Slugs, D.O.A, Subhumans, the Pointed Sticks, the R&B Allstars & many more.
I think Bob Geldof was there about the same time I was. Vancouver's where Britain meets California. It's the only place in the world where you'll see punks out rollerblading. :-D

I noticed The Fartz in the Seattle list. One of the few punk bands to have a wind section.

All my years of listening to the weekly new music podcasts on Seattle's KEXP.org should pay off!

I love that clip JITS, I was tempted to do a song by Featherwash for this season. And J Mascis unplugging his guitar because he didn’t want to harm any insects

Hello, Chris and thanks for hosting ... and for the multiple choices you've offered. I thought I would start off on a safe footing by focusing on the weather option ... I'm not sure I can do Grunge! Thinking about rain - of which we have had rather a lot here recently - this song from the distant past suddenly came to me. (I think it was one of those songs which was frequently played on the BBC's Saturday morning children's special request show .. those Brits of a certain age will know to what I am referring.) P.S. Actually, this is all about showcasing my lupins, which are just coming into their full glory and since they seem to do their own thing, they always turn up in unexpected places, which adds to their delight; these ones decided to zero in on either side of the lounge door.

The term rain dog refers to a dog that's outside in the rain, and all the scents are washed away by water, so it has no idea how to get home. And that is how many people are.
Just saw Val's pink lupin and in the video I am out for a walk with Dami our dog along a path with lupins on either side.

I think the album Ten by Pearl Jam is one of the best records ever made, this is my take on one of the tracks called Release.
