Suburban Water Heater Wiring Questions

Hello,

I am currently in the process of completely renovating my 1983 Toyota Sunrader 21'. I removed the original Suburban water heater that was a manual light propane unit and had zero wires ran to it. I just picked up a SW6DEL from a RV liquidation store. It is a 2018 model that was only installed in a floor model travel trailer.

I have some questions in regards to the wiring for the switch/ignition/relay etc. At this time, I am not going to be running it on 120v but I would like to wire it in while I'm in there.

I purchased the Suburban water heater wall panel switch assembly and a relay I read I needed online. Since I bought this unit second hand, it did not come with any instructions and I'm a little worried I might be missing a few parts? What exactly does this pigtail plug in to that I have attached a picture of (2nd pic). It is completely separate of the 4 wires that had been used in the past. Anyone have any insight on the best way to wire this unit in? I see the diagram on the side of the water heater but it does not show a relay and is calling for a junction box? Is the relay considered a junction box?

There is also a thicker gauge orange wire that is completely separate that I am lost on as well.

Thank you in advance!

The harness plugs into the module board, which is mounted on the rear of the heater where the water outlet pipes are. The wiring diagram is below your hand, as mentioned.

Here is a link to a manual. https://www.manualslib.com/products/...e-3095979.html

Thank you all. Yes it wasn't exactly the whole wiring diagram I was concerned about, I was just lost as to what the harness plugged into. You both were correct, I was missing the control board. I went back to the place I purchased it from today and they apologized and handed it to me. Now it's time to wire this thing in!

DEL Models use 12VDC to operate controls for gas AND electric

***similar to Atwood Model except Suburban only uses the DC as control circuit. AC and Gas still have separate sets of t-stats etc

12VDC from a FUSED source goes to BOTH on/off switches
From the switches 12VDC goes to DC Junction Boax on left side of WH Tank looking from rear........RED Wire/Gas Switch----Blue Wire/Fault Light---Orange Wire/Electric Switch then to DC Relay----Yellow Wire from DC Relay to Ground

120VAC comes from 15A Circuit Breaker to AC side of DC Relay ---Black Wire which then goes to OEM 120VAC Switch in outside compartment

AC Junction Box on right side of WH Tank looking from rear...DC Relay should be inside junction box

Circuit board can be mounted on top towards back of tank insulation or on a nearby cabinet wall

SW6DEL wiring for 12VDC and 120VAC
